The Drowning Prevention Strategy: Towards a Water Safe New Zealand 2005-2015, was released in August 2005. The Strategy’s main focus is on reducing death and injury due to drowning and ensuring people continue to safely enjoy New Zealand’s unique water environments.
The DPS will be implemented in three phases:
Phase One: Establishment of the Strategy support frameworks (2005-2006)
Phase Two: Full implementation (2006-2010)
Phase Three: Consolidation and looking to the future (2010-2015).
