Swimming is not just exercise for the body, it a core-life skill which
all New Zealander’s need to possess no matter what your age.
The ability to swim and survive can save a life, yours or someone you
love
Drowning is the third highest cause of accidental death in New Zealand.
Just by avoiding water sports will not prevent drowning since most people
who drown do so even though they had no intention of entering the water.
With the necessary skills there is no doubt that many of these tragedies
could have been avoided.
Health – one of the best all round low stress exercises
Swimming is one of the best all round exercises available. Not only is it
non-stressful on bones and joints, it also involves most of the muscles in
the body.

It’s never too late

Anyone can learn to swim. Maybe you’ve been thinking for a while that
you’d like to learn to swim or even improve your swimming ability but you
feel it’s to late or your to old – well it’s never to late!

All New Zealanders should experience learn to swim and survive as a
normal course of growing up. However, WSNZ research has shown that today
only 25% of our children aged 12 can swim 200m.
