The Safe Boating Programme is an initiative designed to provide practical, boating and water safety experience for children – regardless of their confidence in the water.
The programme includes in-water survival techniques, essential safety equipment, the importance of communications and taking responsibility for personal safety. Boating activities are taught in a fun, controlled and safe environment.
The programme is aimed at 8-12 year olds and participants will gain the skills and confidence to make better decisions around boats and water.
Each participant receive a Coastguard Boating Education, Safe Boating certificate.
The programme is currently being run in over 50 aquatic centres and outdoor education providers throughout New Zealand.
